Die Arbeiten von Stephan Ehrenhofer sind mit vielen Anmutungen verbunden und öffnen Raum für Assoziationen. Sie feiern die Schönheit der Farbe. Stoffe werden mit dem Pinsel bemalt und zusammengefügt, dem Leitgedanken Ordnung und Modulsystem als Grundlage der Ästhetik im Sinne des Bauhaus folgend, farbige Bänder zu „Coils“ gerollt. Die so entstehenden Objekte von feinster Struktur sind auf die Mitte konzentriert und bewegen sich von dort aus ins Dreidimensionale. Unterschiedliche Materialien in überraschender Weise zu kombinieren, gehört zu den wichtigsten Aspekten der konzeptuell geprägten Arbeit des Künstlers.
Stephan Ehrenhofer (*1964 Zürich, Schweiz) studierte Malerei und Grafik an der Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Wien. Er erhielt Stipendien der Josef & Anni Albers Foundation USA und des Kantons Zürich und seine Arbeit war shortlisted für den André-Edvard-Preis für Konkrete Kunst. Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen fanden statt u.a. in der Stiftung für konstruktive und konkrete Kunst Zürich, im Bundesamt für Bauwesenn und Raumordnung Berlin, in der Architectural Association School of Architecture, London und dem Museum Wilhelm Morgner Soest. Seine Arbeiten befinden sich in privaten und öffentlichen Sammlungen, wie der Joseph & Anni Albers Foundation USA, der J. Rogovin Collection USA, im McClellans Sculpture Park and Gallery Melbourne, dem Landesmuseum Burgenland Österreich, der Cocca Collection und den Sammlungen Hiesmayer und Frech, Österreich, in der Stiftung konzeptuelle Kunst Soest, der About Change Collection Berlin, der Architekturkammer Berlin und in den Sammlungen Nagel, Th. Berger, Österreich und Vermeulen, Niederlande.
Stephan Ehrenhofer’s works seem like many things and open up space for our own associations. They celebrate the beauty of colour, fabrics are painted with a brush and then sewn together, following the guiding principles of order and a modular system as the foundation of an aesthetics in the spirit of the Bauhaus. Colourful ribbons are rolled up into Coils. The highly delicately structured objects created in this way are focussed on the centre, and from there they move into three-dimensionality. Combining different materials in surprising ways is one of the most important aspects of the work, which is informed by a conceptual approach.
Stephan Ehrenhofer (born in 1964 in Zurich, Switzerland) studied painting and graphics at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He received fellowships from the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation USA and the Canton Zurich, and his work was shortlisted for André Edvard Prize for Concrete Art. Solo and group exhibitions have taken place at institutions like the Foundation for Constructive, Concrete, and Conceptual Art in Zurich, the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning in Berlin,the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, and the Museum Wilhelm Morgner in Soest. His works can be found in numerous private and public like the Joseph & Anni Albers Foundation USA, the J. Rogovin Collection USA, the McClellans Sculpture Park and Gallery in Melbourne, the Landesmuseum Burgenland Österreich, the Cocca Collection and the Collections Hiesmayer and Frech, Austria, the Foundation for Conceptual Art, the About Change Collection Berlin, the Chamber of Architects Berlin, and the collections Nagel, Th.
